The head of the Department of Wildlife Protection and Management of Fars Environment announced the observation of several cases of foot-and-mouth disease among the wild goats of Bemo National Park and said: "Until further notice, a permit to visit the park will not be issued."
According to Mehr [news agency], the head of Fars Environment Wildlife Protection and Management Department said: "Following the observation of several deaths among wild goats in Bemo National Park, the area was monitored by environmentalists several times."
Leila Julayi said: "With the cooperation of the General Veterinary Department of Fars Province, pathological tests were conducted, and the possibility of foot-and-mouth disease was raised, and after the initial diagnosis of the disease, all the waterers were disinfected again."
Julayi added: "According to the existing regulations, the entry of livestock into the national park is prohibited, and violators will be dealt with."
Foot-and-mouth disease is an infectious and sometimes fatal viral disease that causes sick animals including [wild] goats and cattle, domestic cattle, and members of the cattle [Bovidae] family.

[With some minor exceptions, FMD affects members of the order Artiodactyla, i.e., all cloven-hoofed animals including domestic and wild ruminants and pigs. Although they do not appear to be suitable reservoirs, some wild ungulates are frequently infected and may play a role in the epidemiology of the disease, such as is the case of saiga antelope and gazelles in Asia.
