Epidemiology
Source of the outbreak(s) or origin of infection: the current clinical cases suggest either introduction of a new sublineage or activation of a local sublineage due to lack of immunological coverage. Active surveillance is in place to update and confirm the new disease foci, the source and phylogeny of the causative lineage/sub lineage is under investigation (pathological samples sent to Sap Institute/Turkiye), no vaccination zoning / and no mass vaccination campaign due to delay in purchasing vaccines, animal movement restriction.
Control measures at event level
Control measures applied, domestic: zoning, surveillance within the restricted zone, screening, quarantine, official disposal of carcasses, by-products and waste, official destruction of animal products, movement control, disinfestation, disinfection, ante and post-mortem inspections.
Diagnostic test results
Laboratory name and type: Central Veterinary Laboratory
Species / Test / Test date / Result
Buffaloes, Cattle / Real-time polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR) / 15 Jan 2023 / positive

[FMD has been officially reported, recently, from 3 countries in the region: Jordan, Israel and Iraq. The strains circulating in Jordan and Israel have been genotyped, by their respective diagnostic laboratories, as O/ME-SA/PanAsia-2/ANT-10. Samples of infected material from Iraq have been submitted to the FMD (Sap) Institute, Ankara, Türkiye for serotyping and genotyping. To identify FMDV spreading routes, into and within the region, and select matching vaccine strain(s), samples or sequences of the studied virus strains deserve being compared, ideally by a reference laboratory. - Mod.AS]
