Epidemiological comments: Within South Africa's FMD Protection Zone. Does not affect South Africa's FMD free status. Buffalo tested for movement were positive on serology. Serotype could not be determined. Coordinates altered for confidentiality as required by South African legislation.
Control measures
Measures applied: movement control inside the country; quarantine; vaccination prohibited; no treatment of affected animals.

[On 23 May 2018, South Africa reported an event of FMD. To date (30 Oct 2018), 4 outbreaks have been reported -- one in Thulamela and 3 in Greater Giyani, Limpopo. These outbreaks are associated with FMD serotype SAT 2 and are located within South Africa's FMD protection zone, close to the Kruger National Park. The event is still continuing.
